Q1. Please tell us a bit about yourself and why you are running.

A: My name is Joe Thorne, ex veteran, spent 6 yrs thus far on Duncan City Council very passionate of being on council. I am a Cowichan tribe member an Love Duncan very much. I work with Sd#79 and VIU as a trades promoter for the dual credit trades programs

 

Q2. The community survey results placed a high priority on sustainability, in particular on protecting our watersheds, water supply and water quality, as well as on creating a more sustainable local economy. If elected, please describe what your approach would be to those issues.

A:  There are many concerns for our water resources this is very critical to me as we are entering a banns belt condition there is a missing communication between all agency's to understand fully what is happening to better work towards preparing an sustaining our gift that is used by all daily farmers to drinking care for control belongs to all of us I feel this must be a priority that cannot be ignored any longer an interagency board must be better prepared to work as a team to save -conserve water carefully look at all areas of Cowichan valley an each town an community's that are effected by each desion made by any one group. That would be my priority be one for all.

 

Q3. The survey results indicated citizens want to see more consultation and accountability between elected officials and their constituents. If elected, please describe what your approach would be to those issues.

A: Being more visible and accessible is something that we try to do Saturday to Saturday in town shopping people stop ask questions or voice a concern this I really like more training is needed to each councillor mayor staff. Why? Because each day something happens that effects us we must be accountable so that folks know we care so on the street q an a 's is good more meetings with public sort of a lets talk about what's on your mind meetings need to happen

 

Q4. What is your position on municipal tax rates and the corresponding level and allocation of services?

A: Tax is an overwhelming thing that is felt by all we can't shift taxes on groups seems to be what I've noticed and this is not good for the people who already struggle each day this is a no brainier an must be dealt with by better control of what kind of dealings are going in in an around the valley by company's  construction infrastructure roads partnering with our neighbors on cost sharing repairs would greatly help to keep taxes down proper investigation over long term effects on existing an future building in our areas to control raising or lowering taxes is important this may not be the answer you want to hear but everyday we learn and I want to help as best I can.

 

Q5. What is your vision for this area, and how would getting elected help achieve it?

A: How do I see the future? Exciting changes are already happening our numbers are growing so the challenge is keeping up with demand more green a must help our farmers is key build our local economy  better education more community safety protect our resources an care for our people  that's what I want it's going to take all of us to go forward  I work for you I don't forget that ever so we must create a vision for us all as a family I will fight for a better tomorrow with your help.
