Q1. Please tell us a bit about yourself and why you are running.

A: I am interested in municipal politics because I care about the area I live in. When I decided that I wanted to become involved in local politics and contribute to our community, Area E was an obvious choice for me because it is where I grew up and worked for the majority of my life.  Politics have played an influential part in my upbringing. My grandmother was mayor of Courtenay for two terms and remains city councilor to this day, and my father is currently running for his second term as a city of Duncan Councilor. I believe I can bring passion and dedication as the director of Area E.

Q2. The community survey results placed a high priority on sustainability, in particular on protecting our watersheds, water supply and water quality, as well as on creating a more sustainable local economy. If elected, please describe what your approach would be to those issues.

A: I believe that small local businesses are the key to a sustainable local economy, and that it is vital to encourage them in business and in environmental sustainability.

Q3. The survey results indicated citizens want to see more consultation and accountability between elected officials and their constituents. If elected, please describe what your approach would be to those issues.

A: I would like to utilize social media within our community so that each and every citizen of area E may have the opportunity to contact me directly about any issue big or small, in order to create a more interactive and accountable decision making process.

Q4. What is your position on municipal tax rates and the corresponding level and allocation of services?

A: We should spend money on services that we need, and that are valuable to our community and leave the rest for you and your family.

Q5. What is your vision for this area, and how would getting elected help achieve it?

A: I would like to protect the rural feel of area E while bringing subtle developments that contribute to the entire community, and bring a new perspective to the area that will continue to allow us to flourish.
