Greg Robson

Municipality of North Cowichan Candidate

Q1. Please tell us a bit about yourself and why you are running.

A: My name is Greg Robson. I am 40 years of age and married to Carli. I also have 2 children, Delaney who is 15 and Grady who is 13. I have owned Greg’s RV Place for 15 years. I am running for council because I feel fortunate to have been able to have a successful business in the Cowichan Valley and want to give back to my community.

Q2. The community survey results placed a high priority on sustainability, in particular on protecting our watersheds, water supply and water quality, as well as on creating a more sustainable local economy. If elected, please describe what your approach would be to those issues.

A: I am not an expert on water supply issues other than I realize the importance of water to our very existence. I hope my kids have bountiful clean water to drink as well as recreate with.  Further education on my part is needed to contribute to this matter.

I believe the role of municipal government is to create the right conditions for business to thrive in our area. The result is an abundance of jobs and a general fiscal wellbeing so our community members can financially thrive. An ‘open for business’ attitude will create this atmosphere.

Q3. The survey results indicated citizens want to see more consultation and accountability between elected officials and their constituents. If elected, please describe what your approach would be to those issues.

A: My opinion on this matter is that the constituents are speaking their voice when electing particular council members. Dialogue with the constituents through meetings, phone calls and emails are a welcome tool to achieve open communications and accountability.

Q4. What is your position on municipal tax rates and the corresponding level and allocation of services?

A: I feel that controlling costs for the taxpayers in North Cowichan is crucial. Tax rate increases should follow the rate of inflation. The corresponding level of services should reflect the tax yield.

Q5. What is your vision for this area, and how would getting elected help achieve it?

A: My vision for North Cowichan is prosperity and growth. A static economy for our area is unacceptable. I feel a ‘can do’ attitude combined with balance can accomplish this goal.
