ONE COWICHAN’s Canadian Federal Election Engagement Campaign

We believe there is a lot we can do together to address the challenges we face as a community, especially if we elect a government that cares about ordinary people.

ONE COWICHAN’s Canadian Federal Election Engagement Campaign

..in collaboration with 350.org Canada

Everyday people are struggling to make ends meet during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis in our community and across Canada – all while corporate billionaires continue to rake in record profits and produce more carbon emissions than the average Canadian would produce in a lifetime.

Pierre Poilievre and his Conservative cronies are saying that, if they’re elected, they’ll address our needs, when we know that Poilievre would turn the keys of power over to the corporate elite, his campaign’s major donors, at the first opportunity.

We believe there is a lot we can do together to address the challenges we face as a community, especially if we elect a government that cares about ordinary people.

We’ll be doing some door knocking and organizing some community conversations this spring, and asking you, “What are you most concerned about this election?” and “What do you think are the most important/urgent things for our government to address?” We’re not going to tell you who to vote for, other than encouraging you to consider “Anybody but the Conservatives”.

AND – between now and the election – we’re going to fight for a massive tax on

wealthy corporations & the billionaire class, working with 350.org & our Cowichan communities to build power behind a compelling vision of a future that works for ALL OF US.

By raising taxes on Big Oil and Canada’s wealthiest corporations, we can recoup billions of dollars to tackle the climate crisis and build a 100% renewable energy economy worthy of working people.

Our Campaign Demands are:

BUILD HOMES FOR PEOPLE, NOT PROFIT: Secure housing is a right, not a luxury to be enjoyed by the wealthy few.

DELIVER CHEAPER, CLEANER ENERGY: It’s time for a fossil fuel phase-out and massive investments in publicly owned and community-led renewable energy projects.

INVEST IN SAFE, HEALTHY COMMUNITIES: After decades of public funding cuts, we desperately need to improve the public services we all rely on like education, healthcare, public transit, and social services.

CREATE GOOD JOBS FOR ALL: Shifting to a green economy needs to be rooted in a just transition that will provide millions of good green jobs.

FOLLOW INDIGENOUS LEADERSHIP: Full partnership with Indigenous communities is the only way forward.

Timeline: The next federal election has to happen by Fall 2025, and we are planning for a likely Spring 2025 federal election.

We’re looking to have conversations with, hear from, and build connections with local people across the Cowichan Valley and work together to make life safer, and more affordable for all of us.

And… Here’s an action you can take right now.

While the wealthiest companies are making record profits, everyday people here in the Cowichan Valley and across Canada are being left behind. Sign our petition and urge federal party leaders to commit to taxing billionaires, Big Oil, and Canada’s wealthiest corporations to fund the solutions we need to make life safer and more affordable for all of us, like affordable housing, renewable energy, stronger public services, good, unionized jobs, and Indigenous-led climate solutions.
