A statement by One Cowichan’s Matt Price:

“The Harper government’s approval of the Enbridge project today is a betrayal of British Columbia. First Nations have stated their unequivocal opposition. During the NEB hearings, 1,159 people spoke out against the project to only two in favour, and recently 300 scientists called the NEB’s resulting report “flawed.” In the midst of the climate crisis, it’s tragic that our federal government wants to go entirely in the wrong direction by promoting more fossil fuels instead of clean energy.

Today we call upon BC Premier Christy Clark to deny the Enbridge project any provincial permits. Failing that, One Cowichan is ready to join others in a HST-style citizens’ initiative to pass a law that would do so. Over 250 people in Cowichan have already formed into 16 teams in preparation for this, and we call on others concerned about this flawed project to join us.”
