Statement on the decision of the BC government to alter Cowichan River flows:

“We would like to congratulate the province, Catalyst, Cowichan Tribes and local stakeholders for working together to provide more flexibility to help fish in the Cowichan River.

We would like to keep working together to improve river flows over the long term. Climate models show that this change announced today will only be adequate in about half of the years to come.

Ultimately, we believe that local control will let us better manage our watershed issues, and look forward to consulting with the province on updating the Water Act to let this happen.”
